- Summary/Objective
-
- Followed up work at ref SDS 29 line 85, ref SDS 23 line 84,
- line 83.
-
- There is a book review in the April PMI NCC Newsletter. I should
- submit something on the End of Work book.
-
- Another article would be for Asilomar.
-
- Asilomar Shall Rise Again
-
- It was troubling to hear that our chapter will not be holding the
- Asilomar conference this year. But like the storied Phoenix, the
- leadership of Judy Painter, Ahmet Taspinar and many others will
- ensure a vibrant future for this annual event.
-
- Looking ahead to make Asilomar the premiere regional conference in
- PMI, there a few steps that the next leader of this conference
- should keep in mind:
-
- 1. The theme should be tied to the PMBOK, and should be
- coordinated with the objectives of the chapter dinner
- presentations.
-
- 2. We must attract larger and more varied participation,
- particularly senior executives. In the past, this has been
- accomplished by getting key project management executives
- in major organizations involved. An example is Dan Ono
- with AT&T. These senior people necessarily bring with them
- a contingent of staff. If all we bring are staff, they are
- unprepared to influence the senior people to take or even
- consider a new course as presented at the conference.
-
- 3. To attract a larger participation we must:
-
- a. Get quality speakers.
-
- b. Give the speakers some material that is meaningful to
- the membership. Merely asking a speader to show and
- say whatever is on their mind, is to play russian
- roulette.
-
- c. Promote the event.
-
- A key dimension of promotion is getting cooperation
- from PMI publications to do articles on the event over
- a number of months in advance of the event.
-
- The event needs to be discussed at the PMI dinner
- meetings over a number of months.
