0707 -
070701 - Followed up work at ref SDS 3 line 53, ref SDS 2 line 275, r

070704 - Developed support for Bill to partition the disk on his new computer.

0710 - Progress
0711 -
071101 - When I met Bill for lunch on Monday, he advised of having purchased a
071102 - Compact desktop PC. It has a 4G disk drive. He planned to install
071103 - an 800M drive from his existing computer and to configure it as
071104 - drives d - h to support SDS.
071105 -
071106 - I called him today about having lunch with Millie and I in Justin
071107 - Plaza. He was on the road and could not make lunch. Bill said the
071108 - plan to use the second drive did not work as well as hoped. He plans
071109 - now to partition the primary disk and put the data for SDS on it.
071110 -
071111 - Bill wants the record of parititioning the drive on CPU #8, as a guide
071112 - for his work over the weekend. The record is on his computer, but he
071113 - cannot access SDS until after he gets the computer set up. I will
071114 - submit via internet the record as separate files.
071115 -
071116 - The original analysis of disk parititioning is at ref SDS 1 line 70.
071117 - I created file B0 for this.
071118 -
071119 - I made file B1 the ascii file of the spreadsheet analysing file
071120 - allocation size as a function of disk paritition size.
071121 -
071122 - The record where Morris configured my two drives together is at ref
071123 - SDS 2 line 274. This record describes changing CMOS to recognize the
071124 - 2nd drive. Bill said the other day at lunch that he has not been able
071125 - to call his CMOS setup, so this may be part of the difficulty getting
071126 - his two drives to work together. I will submit the applicable part of
071127 - this record to Bill as file B2 for reference.
071128 -
071129 - The changes made to disk partitions a few days later is at ref SDS 3
071130 - line 67. I will submit this record to Bill as file B3.
071131 -
071132 - I will make this file "Bill"
071133 -
071134 - Here are disk sizes that might work to cover the 4+G drive Bill has:

071137 -
071138 - Followed up work at ref SDS 3 line 140.
071139 -
071140 - After running fdisk using the W95 boot disk, created per above,
071141 - wound up with following partiitions:
071142 -
071143 - Entered Allocation
071144 - in Fdisk Unit Size Formatted Capacity
071145 -
071146 - C: 520 8192 536428544
071147 - D: 520 8192 536428544
071148 - E: 520 8192 536428544
071149 - F: 520 8192 536428544
071150 - G: 520 8192 536428544
071151 - H: 520 8192 536428544
071152 - I: 700 16360 524042240
071153 - ----------
071154 - 4200000000
071155 -
071156 - Another approach is to make c: 800 MB or so, and let it go to 16k file
071157 - allocation unit size on the grounds that most of Bill's programs are
071158 - installed on c: and program files are typically larger than 16K,
071159 - thereby minimizing the impact of the larger allocation size. Use the
071160 - other drives to store "data" files consisting of letters, documents,
071161 - and SDS records and control criteria for projects which typically
071162 - would be 5K plus or minus.
071163 -
071164 - Submitted this record as "Bill" and the other files b0 - b3 in a zip
071165 - file via internet, per Bill's request.
