- Summary/Objective
-
- Follow up ref SDS 17 0000, ref SDS 14 0000.
- ..
- Everybody showed up today to help Millie with her new bed.
-
- Millie fixed prime rib for dinner.
-
- Amy wanted to play solitaire again.
-
- Amanda wants to type.
-
- Mathew wants to play a game.
-
- What to do???
-
- We discussed the best approach for giving everybody a shot at fussing
- around on the computer. Decided Amy would start by playing solitaire,
- and when she finishes, Amanda will write up the visit today; then
- Mathew will try a game.
-
- Amy started playing solitaire, but decided to play chess instead. She
- is quite good in recognizing the objective of the game and how the
- various pieces move. Amanda got impatient, so we all helped Amy move
- the King into check mate.
-
- Amanda then got a chance to use the computer and she wrote a short
- note about how she, Mathew, and her folks all visited Granmda Millie
- in Concord today today to swap beds, with the result that Amanda will
- have a bed all to herself. What follows, is Amanda's story with some
- help from Mathew on inspiration and Rod on keys.
-
- Steve stopped first in San Francisco to help Rod move a double bed
- from upstairs to Steve and Lilly's Suburban van. We drove to Grandma
- Millie's in Concord to deliver the bed and have dinner. On the way,
- Emily initially entertained everyone by relating her concerns about
- being required to sit up front in her special car seat, instead of
- traveling in the back with her brother and sister. Mathew added to the
- entertainment by reciting the ABCs. Rod explained he is still
- learning how to arrange the ABCs to improve communication. Amanda sang
- a song about ABCs in which each letter is applied in an entire
- sentence.
-
- At Grandma Millie's Steve and Rod unloaded the double bed. Millie had
- purchased it earlier in the week based on an ad in the laundry room at
- the Golden Gateway. We disassembled the single bed Millie purchased
- from her friend, Becky, a month earlier, and had set up in the second
- bedroom upstairs, and carried it downstairs. We carried the double
- bed upstairs and set it up using the frame that came with the Queen
- size bed Millie purchased a year ago when she moved to Concord. That
- frame was left over because Millie bought a decorative frame with the
- bed, but a standard frame comes with the bed as well.
-
- By this time Ron and Kim arrived with Stephanie and Amy.
-
- After the double bed was setup upstairs, the single bed was put in the
- truck for Steve and Lilly to take home for Amanda. Steve suggested
- getting some padding for the end of the frame on Millie's bed to avoid
- causing damage if the bed is jammed against the wall. Steve and Ron
- played catch out front for awhile with Mathew's football. Steve, Ron
- and Rod drove to Ace Hardware to purchase the padding for the bed
- frame. Steve stopped at Wells Fargo and got some money. We stopped at
- Safeway and bought some more beer for the family visit.
-
- When we got back, Pam had come over from her house two doors away.
- Nolan was still taking a nap, so Emily had to play by herself for a
- little while longer. Later Bill arrived with Nolan.
-
- Everybody watched the end of the Dallas/Carolina football game, which
- Carolina won.
-
- Ron and Kim had a vollyball event to attend at 1600. Stephanie went
- with them, Amy stayed to visit with Amanda and Mathew, and to have
- dinner with the family. Pam and Bill left for a concert event. They
- used a baby-sitter so Millie would not have to stay up late waiting
- for them to return from the concert oa 2300.
-
- Everybody then had dinner. Millie prepared prime rib, mashed potatoes
- and creamed spinich with onions. The kids actually ate more than we
- expected. Emily wanted help putting a battery into a mechanical ball
- so it would roll on its own.
-
- After dinner Mathew wanted to play chess on the computer. First he
- played catch with Rod using the football.
-
- Mathew played Rod in a chess match and soon had Rod reeling wondering
- how to avoid check mate. He was a little unfamiliar with using the
- mouse to move the chess pieces, but very soon became an expert.
-
- Ron, Kim and Stephanie returned from their event about two hours after
- leaving. In about 30 minutes or so we all left for home.
