040901 - Arijs has talked to Jimmy Bates.  He said he explained our event and
040902 - the scope of closing remarks we need, based on our discussion at ref
040903 - SDS 2 line 67.  Arijs said he has only glanced at the material I
040904 - submitted at ref SDS 4 line 51.  He is intrigued by the NWO paper and
040905 - plans to read it more carefully.  After our discussion, he said he
040906 - would distribute the NWO paper to the project managers on his staff
040907 - and will advise me of comments on Communication Metrics.

040911 - Arijs said Jimmy is interested in giving the closing remarks for the
040912 - PMI Asilimar conference.  However he is retiring in April and is
040913 - unsure if he will be available in July, since he may still be moving
040914 - to his new home in Florida.  Arijs has faxed the material to Jimmy for
040915 - his consideration.  He plans to follow up in a week or so, but
040916 - suggests I contact him directly because I can explain the ideas
040917 - better.

040919 - Arijs has called Hank Hatch's office at Fluor and talked to a
040920 - secretary.  The secretary seemed to deal with the General only
040921 - sporadically, so Arijs feels at least this is the right number for
040922 - him.  He said though that others he has contacted in the Corps say
040923 - they have not seen nor heard from the General for months.  He has
040924 - missed a number of functions which he had formerly been attending, so
040925 - there is concern about him in the Corps.

040931 - Arijs asked if he and others at the Corps could attend this event,
040932 - even if they don't come up with the closing speaker.  He said the
040933 - ideas we have discussed are critical in their organization.  They have
040934 - 40K people all sending information to one another and doing input into
040935 - the management data bases, but everybody feels there is less real
040936 - communication going on than 10 years ago.  He said they have systems
040937 - dating back to the 1960's with newer systems added on top.

040939 - I explained my understanding that anyone can attend the Asilomar PMI
040940 - event provided they pay the fees.  I also noted that the ideas to be
040941 - presented to the conference are in the NWO paper.  Second, it takes
040942 - two things to get better communications:  tools and people skilled to
040943 - use them.  We need a new kind of worker.  I mentioned resistance to
040944 - this from the discussion with Morris this morning at Chips.  Arijs
040945 - said he feels there would be less resistance within the Corps.  They
040946 - have been working on this problem for years, but nobody has come up
040947 - with anything like what we are talking about.
