0605 - Summary/Objective
0606 -
060601 - Followed up work at ref SDS 10 line 62. Bill advised of discussions
060602 - with Chris on SDS training. We considered transition PM support.
060603 -
060604 - Set meeting with Chris for next Monday, 941128, on developing
060605 - specific plan and budget.

0609 - Discussion
0610 -
061001 - Bill said he met with Chris yesterday and advised the Welch budget
061002 - needs to be decided about. Chris said there have been further man-
061003 - agement changes. PG&E is planning to give Mike Emerey the voluntary
061004 - severance Mike has requested. Another project manager will take over
061005 - CDWR and Gold Hill. Bill feels the analyst for the project manager
061006 - he and Chris discussed for taking over these projects, has good com-
061007 - puter skills and would be a good candidate for using SDS.
061008 -
061009 - The idea would be for to train the analyst and somewhat train the new
061010 - PM, but the anlayst would be able to support the PM and train that
061011 - person to use SDS.
061012 -
061013 - Bill said Chris wants to learn to use SDS. Chris asked Bill if SDS
061014 - can be use to support his work. Bill told Chris that SDS can be used
061015 - to manage anything. Chris needs a different computer because the one
061016 - he has now has a very small disk. He will investigate upgrading his
061017 - disk, or using the computer Jim was going to give me.
061018 -
061019 - Chris wants to have a meeting next Monday to set out a plan of
061020 - action.
061021 -
061022 - I explained my sense that the best approach would be for me to spend
061023 - the next month transitioning the new PM and Analyst to take over Gold
061024 - Hill and CDWR. Since Bill will be stepping away more and more, this
061025 - will be helpful to the new PM in not being inundated with new stuff,
061026 - and having to come up to speed all at once, while continuing with his
061027 - current assignments. I can install SDS on Chris' computer when it is
061028 - upgraded in a week or so, and provide initial training for him with
061029 - the understanding that my main focus should be on making sure CDWR
061030 - and Gold Hill remain on track throught he holidays. After the 1st of
061031 - the year, we can begin dedicated training January on SDS. I think
061032 - two months should be set for that.
061033 -
061034 - Bill suggested we could do group sessions.
061035 -
061036 - We can do group sessions on program structure and concept, as I
061037 - did with Bill and Cynthia, ref SDS 2 line 73. But SDS has to be
061038 - trained at the person's work station, so they have the context of
061039 - their work to make the stuff meaningful, ref SDS 6 line 31. If
061040 - there is a PG&E computer training lab, we could do some group
061041 - training using my records over the network.
061042 -
061043 -
061044 - I asked Bill to attend a meeting with Chris, the new PM and the
061045 - analyst and explain Welch will use SDS for them to demonstrate the
061046 - value of automating the SDS management cycle: plan, perform, report.
061047 - PG&E has found on CDWR and Gold Hill that this method works. It is
061048 - hard to learn, but is worth it especially with Welch to assist them
061049 - in learning and making sure things get done.
061050 -
061051 - Bill understands the important thing we need to build is faith that
061052 - this will improve management, and confidence that they will get the
061053 - support they need to acquire the skills.

061401 - On the way back from lunch, we visited briefly with Chris, confirming
061402 - our intent to talk about SDS on Monday, per the discussion with Bill
061403 - above. Chris indicated he has been thinking about getting another
061404 - computer to use SDS.
