091501 - Initially Steve said they are planning to do a root canal and a crown
091502 - on my tooth tomorrow.  I reviewed the record at ref SDS 6 line 33, and
091503 - asked why it is a root canal and crown, when the record shows the
091504 - filling was to be replaced.  Steve said that is the tooth that his
091505 - records from Dec 23, 1992 show is cracked and needs a root canal and
091506 - crown.  He said replacing the filling may solve the temperature
091507 - problem, if the crack does not extend into the nerve; however, that
091508 - would be an optimistic treatment.  We reviewed the record at ref SDS 1

091511 - He said the crown will cost about $680, and our insurance will pay for
091512 - half of that cost.  This is less than the $800 he quoted in 1992, per

091518 - I decided to proceed with the crown, in order to eliminate the pain
091519 - from temperature and chewing.  Steve said that during the course of
091520 - preparing the tooth for a crown, he can further assess the need for a
091521 - root canal based on whether there is evidence the crack in the tooth,
091522 - extends into the root area. If it appears there is a good chance that
091523 - the crown alone will solve the problem, they will proceed with that.
091524 - Once that work is complete, I will be able to tell very soon whether
