0507 - Summary/Objective
0508 -
050801 - Tried following drag and drop procedure suggested by Paul at ref SDS 4
050802 - line 060841, rather than modifying ini.rc per call from Oscar at ref
050803 - SDS 1 line 091202.
050804 -
050805 - Did not work. Need further input from IBM.

0511 - Procedure
0512 -
051201 - Trying this morning to drag and drop psfonts to
051202 -
051203 - e: os2 psfonts
051204 -
051205 - ..
051206 - Decided not to try doing it with ini.rc, because it does not
051207 - seem to have all of the file structure we are using under psfonts.
051208 - We have a directory:
051209 -
051210 - c: psfonts pfm
051211 -
051212 - ...this is not listed in ini.rc.
051213 -
051214 -
051215 - Used xcopy to put a copy of psfonts on i: for safe keeping.
051216 -
051217 - 1. I opened the folder:
051218 -
051219 - e: os2
051220 -
051221 - ...so its contents are displayed in a menue box,
051222 - ..
051223 - 2. Then opened the folder
051224 -
051225 - c:\
051226 -
051227 - ...so its contents are displayed in a menue box,
051228 -
051229 -
051230 - 3. Then used the right mouse button to drag the "psfonts" folder
051231 - from the c:\ menu box, into the e: os2 menu box.
051232 -
051233 - This seems to have worked.
051234 -
051235 - ..
051236 - Lost Desktop Fonts
051237 -
051238 - Psfonts apparently are the fonts used for the desktop.
051239 -
051240 - I changed the system to DOS, then booted it back. Descriptions of the
051241 - icons are much larger, than originally with the result that they don't
051242 - fit correctly.
051243 -
051244 - Will now try building a new ini file per ref SDS 1 line 091202.
051245 -
051246 - This did not solve problem, and it lost the desktop colors. Tried
051247 - modifying ini.rc, so the list for psfonts correlates to the complete
051248 - directory on our disk. We have a directory:
051249 -
051250 - psfonts pfm
051251 -
051252 - ...on the disk that is not listed in ini.rc, so I added to it and
051253 - the list of fonts in pfm.
051254 -
051255 - ..
051256 - Will now try building ini.rc again. This did not work, so I
051257 - changed ini.rc back.
051258 -
051259 - Moved psfonts back from e: to c:, using drag and drop within os2.
051260 -
051261 - Seem to have the original desktop back with right colors and fonts.
051262 -
051263 -
051264 - Saved stuff I created below in case it is ever possible to discuss it
051265 - with someone like Oscar toward achieving the success he seemed to
051266 - enyoy.

051304 -
051305 - When I called John at IBM below about the mem problem, he turned out
051306 - to be a psfonts expert. He says we just have to load fonts and tell
051307 - the system where they are after we move them by opening Font Palette
051308 - under System Setup. He said we can then drag the fonts from the font
051309 - palette to the desktop or other environment, to invoke them.
051310 -
051311 - I tried this after moving psfonts back to e:\os2, and it did not work.
051312 - Could not add fonts from e: drive. There was a 8 point Helv font in
051313 - the font palette box, but it would not drag to the desktop, as it did
051314 - when psfonts is in root directory of c: drive.
051315 - ..
051316 - Tried makeini with ini.rc changed per above again.

070705 - Called for John on status: 407 443 8717

070707 - He said he has so many calls he has not been able to respond to

070715 - Interim Solution to RAM Problem in OS2
070716 -
070717 - John said an os2 User has found that on some systems setting "rmsize"
070718 - to 639 instead of 640, in config.sys, enables OS2 to apply the feature
070719 - of the prior version of allocating upper memory to DOS applications by
070720 - turning off the CGA memory.
070721 -
070722 - I tried this and it seems to work.
070723 -
070724 - We get following MEM results with video_mode_restrictions set to CGA,
070725 - which means CGA memory area is released....
070726 -
070727 - 752640 bytes total memory
070728 - 752640 bytes available for DOS
070729 - 740656 largest executable program size
070730 - ..
070731 - This gives us 18700 lines in an Medit file and free reading
070732 - of
070733 -
070734 - unused 37560 used 759 ret used 759
070735 -
070736 -
070737 - With video_mode_restriction set to "NONE", we get following MEM
070738 - reading:
070739 -
070740 - 654336 bytes total memory
070741 - 654336 bytes available for DOS
070742 - 642608 largest executable program size
070743 -
070744 - This gives us 15500 lines in an Medit file and free reading of
070745 -
070746 - unused 31432 used 759 ret used 759
070747 - ..
070748 - This seems like an adequate solution.
070749 -
070750 - I made two SDS apps use the CGA mode, and one that does not so it can
070751 - open Lotus files directly using SeeMore.
