CONTACTS
0201 - Microsoft Corporation Telephone
020101 - Mr. James Shamblin; Technician; MS Dos Support 206 646 5108 (costs $25)

SUBJECTS
Kwan Henmi SDS
Screen Delayed in Reports, under Windows
Config.sys (himem.sys /m:n)
Mouse, Microsoft v. 8.20a, 920710

0606 - ..
0607 - Summary/Objective
0608 -
060801 - Follow up telecon at ref SDS 1 line 081410, and further work done
060802 - based on DOS manual, per ref SDS 1 line 081873. That solution failed
060803 - per ref SDS 3 line 070904.
060804 -
060805 - Was unable again to contact Micorosoft support for Windows, so called
060806 - the DOS support line that costs $25. Talked to James.
060807 -
060808 - Did not find solution, but seemed to determine that the cause of the
060809 - problem is smartdrv.exe in autoexec.bat, rather than config.sys.
060810 - Also discovered that the problem does not occur in full screen mode
060811 - in Windows.
060812 -
060813 -
0609 -
0610 -
0611 - config.sys
0612 -
061201 - We did not try any further changes to himem.sys. Did try changing
061202 - buffers to 30 and files to 60, that did not work. Later today, I
061203 - tried buffers 60 at KH, and that did not work.
061204 -
061205 - I had forgotten to change the standard autoexec.bat and config.sys in
061206 - the sd 03 009* series, used for swapping memory management drivers
061207 - out of memory for doing disk compression. I did it this evening.
061208 -
061209 - Tried using Windows standard VGA video driver, instead of Ultra video
061210 - card Crystal Fonts. The Windows VGA driver worked worse than the
061211 - Ultra fonts, so we switched back.
061212 -
061213 -
061214 - Full Screen OK
061215 -
061216 - Experimentation shows Full Screen mode in Windows, permits continiuous
061217 - performance. We can run consecutive reports without a problem.
061218 - James
061219 -
061220 -
061221 -
061222 -
061223 -
0613 -
0614 -
0615 - Autoexec.bat
0616 -
061601 - We tried changing params on smartdrv.exe, but the only one that we got
061602 - to work was remarking smartdrv.exe out of autoexec.bat altogether.
061603 -
061604 - When smartdrv.exe is not run, SDS reports can be run over and over
061605 - again in a Windows window session.
061606 -
061607 - James suggesting trying to make following change from:
061608 -
061609 - H:\00\02\SMARTDRV.EXE 2048 2048 C+ D+ E+ F+ G+ H+
061610 -
061611 - ...to:
061612 -
061613 - H:\00\02\SMARTDRV.EXE 2048 2048 C+ D+ E+ F+ G+ H-
061614 -
061615 - ...this did not improve performance.
061616 -
061617 - James suggested we experiment further with smartdrv.exe switches as
061618 - shown on page 540 in Windows Manual.
061619 -
061620 -
061621 - /e:1024 /b:2048 could be done this way.
