1210 - Summary/Objective
1211 -
121101 - Picked up and tested new Toshiba T4400SXC notebook computer. Received
121102 - invoice, ref DRT 1, paid with Millie's credit card, per ref SDS 11 and
121103 - DIP 1.
121104 -
121105 - Have a problem with the system using Himem and emm386, and Qaplus is
121106 - not running. Mouse requires special PS2 Bus port connector.
121107 -
121108 -
121109 - Make sure the computer loads the special Windows drivers. If it did
121110 - not come with the computer, it may be on their demonstration unit, if
121111 - it shows Windows very well.

1214 - Set-Up
1215 -
121501 - I took CPU #5 and used laplink to transfer all the file configuration
121502 - from CPU #5 to CPU #7.
121503 -
121504 -

1217 -
1218 - Verified DX CPU Installed
1219 -
121901 - Hector opened the computer and showed me the i486 DX processor is
121902 - installed instead of an SX. I asked him to do this because the case
121903 - says: T4400SXC. We ordered a DX, and our invoice, ref DRT 1, calls
121904 - the unit a T4400DXC. I saw the i486DX chip. I also ran Norton SI
121905 - which reported a math co-processor is present which is not true on an
121906 - SX CPU.
121907 -
121908 - It is fairly awkward to do the removal. Three screws on the bottom
121909 - across the front of the unit, must first be removed. Then flip it
121910 - over and pop the keyboard loose. This step is done with
121911 - fingernails and did not appear easy to do. The keyboard is simply
121912 - laid back, since there is a thin, delicate looking, ribbon
121913 - connector that Hector left connected. Inside, a metal cover plate
121914 - beneath the keyboard must be removed by removing two screws, one on
121915 - either side of the plate.

1222 - Evaluation
1223 -
122301 - Memory Not Loading High
122302 -
122303 - Mem is not showing anything is loaded high.
122304 -
122305 - With the same config.sys and autoexec.bat, we are not getting
122306 - anything to load high.
122307 -
122308 - It appears the DOS 5.0 version on the T4400DXc may be different
122309 - from standard DOS 5.0 on our other computers.
122310 -
122311 - It appears that emm386 is not executing. Mem says it is loading,
122312 - but the available memory is incorrect. We tried both the native
122313 - emm286 and the more recent version, and neither are loading
122314 - smartdrv high.
122315 -
122316 -
122317 - 458752 bytes total conventional memory
122318 - 405456 largest executable program size
122319 -
122320 - This evening the machine is failing to boot.
122321 -
122322 -
122323 -
122324 - Loadhigh, print Failed
122325 -
122326 - When we loaded the printer high, we get a reading of 458 KB RAM, and
122327 - that is the opposite of the intent of the command.
122328 -
122329 -
122330 -
122331 - PS2 Bus Mouse Port
122332 -
122333 - We need a special adapater for the mouse port to run our bus port.
122334 -
122335 - Evidently the bus mouse we have is specifically for the ATI Wonder
122336 - card, and does not fit the PS/2 slot.
122337 -
122338 - The PS/2 adapter for the keyboard fits the mouse port.
122339 -
122340 -
122341 -
122342 - Qaplus Failed
122343 -
122344 - Could not test this at Tote-A-Lap because we do not have Qaplus on CPU
122345 - #5. When I got to TMS today to pickup up CPU #3, we loaded Qaplus
122346 - from CPU #3, and ran it. The program failed on the Interder Alert
122347 - step, reporting the program had been altered. Dick tried several
122348 - other versions of Qaplus he has and they all failed.
122349 -
122350 - Need to find out why Qaplus will not run.
122351 -
122352 -

1225 -
1226 - Carrying Case
1227 -
122701 - The case for the Twinhead seems to work okay, but we need the strap
122702 - now.
