1608 - Summary
1609 -
160901 - Morri has received CPU #4, and has it set up. We discussed modifying
160902 - the partitions and the directory structure. I have approved modifying
160903 - the partitions and eliminating some directories as necessary to
160904 - support Morri's work. I asked him to hold off on modifying the
160905 - directory structure until he has a chance to more fully evaluate the
160906 - existing system.

1611 -
1612 - Configuring CPU #4
1613 -
161301 - He wants to re-partition the disk because he has a 38 MB environment
161302 - he needs to install. This would result in eliminating some of the
161303 - programs and directories. I generally feel this is okay, if it will
161304 - help him.
161305 -
161306 - He will submit a plan for this for me to approve per our
161307 - contract provision 4a(4).
161308 -
161309 -
161310 - Modifying Directory Id Methods
161311 -
161312 - He also wants to change the method of identifying directories to use
161313 - non-numerical names because it is more traditional and easier for
161314 - people to learn than trying to remember the numbers used in SDS. He
161315 - cited the fact that when programs are purchased they typically are
161316 - installed into their own program name directory. Morri feels the
161317 - Subject Index is difficult for people to learn initially.
161318 -
161319 - I asked him to avoid changing the SI concept for the time being
161320 - until he gets more familiar with using it. Explained our objective
161321 - is for him to develop something that uses SDS methods, one of
161322 - which is using numbers for the directories. I believe the SI goes
161323 - a long way toward accomplishing an objective he cited of providing
161324 - seamless access between programs. I explained my view that SDS
161325 - together with Windows provides good multi-tasking and networking
161326 - capability that we are seeking to provide the user.
161327 -
161328 - We call this a:
161329 -
161330 - Management Operating System
161331 -
161332 - If we give people something that is easy to learn but does not
161333 - significantly lift their productivity, then they will discard it
161334 - and will not endorse it. Sales will fall off.
161335 -
161336 - Morri will consider this further.
161337 -
161338 -
161339 - Mouse
161340 -
161341 - He tried using a serial mouse, but got no response.
161342 -
161343 - We considered that Windows should figure out which com port is
161344 - connected to the mouse, so the problem should not be one of improper
161345 - Windows configuration. Possibly it was connected to a non-port pin,
161346 - which I think TMS left on the machine. He will try another port
161347 - connector this evening.
161348 -
161349 - I advised I have ordered a bus mouse, ref SDS 3, which should arrive
161350 - next week. It plugs into the pin beneath the VGA Monitor pin
161351 - connector.
161352 -
161353 -
161354 - pcAnywhere
161355 - ----------
161356 - We also need to experiment with this. I probably need to get him a
161357 - high speed modem like I got for Wayne, so we can do this kind of
161358 - thing efficiently.
