- ..
- Later that day, called Hoka back and bought a pair of low top Tor
- Summit WS shoes. ref SDS 6 D47H Have not yet opened the box with the
- Tor Summit high top shoes, but have worn the low tops, mostly walking
- around the house, going to the store. However....
- ..
- On 160523 went to the VA. Between meetings walked to the beach, about
- a mile away, so round trip was 2 miles. This was a good hike, with
- significant uphill grade on return hike over the entire mile walking
- back to the VA. This went well. As a result, after returning home
- from the VA, later the same day tried to do a regular 11 mile hike,
- reported in case study on 140101 0600. ref SDS 2 724F After 2 miles,
- there was sudden severe lateral pain pain along outer edges of both
- feet. Pain level increased, so did only half a lap, cutting the hike
- off at 6 miles. This injury may be caused by siff outer sole of Hoka
- Tor Summit WS shoes, purchased on 160423 0804. ref SDS 6 D47H These
- shoes have much better traction, but much less give, combined with
- walking on concrete sidewalk for 2.5 miles may have caused stress
- fratcures and/or "Cuboid Syndrome" where tarsel bone is dislocated.

- ..
- Talked to Chris.
- ..
- Reported problems with Tor Summit shoes, per above. ref SDS 0 S66G
- ..
- Further reported new problem today of Hoka Stinson 3 shoes heel lining
- failing and causing severe blisters during hike at Lafayette
- Reservoir, reported in case study on 140101 0600. ref SDS 2 VTQU
- ..
- Chris said other customers have reported difficulties with Stinson 3
- heel design using a heavier, thicker perimeter lip that intends to
- provide a tighter, secure fit to the ankle, but actually causes
- blisters, because some slippage occurs despite tighter fit. As well,
- he said the heel lining material tears and frays, also causing
- blisters to the heel of the feet.
- ..
- Chris advised that Hoke plans to release new models in few months - he
- may mentioned October time frame - that will use the Hoka original
- heel design and lining material that works well in the Hoka Stinson
- Lite model shoes.
- ..
- This was good news. Advised Chris of having purchased 10 pair of
- Stinson Lite shoes over the past 2 years, originally to replace Hoka
- Stinson Trail shoes that had the same heel lining problems as the
- current Stinson 3 shoes, causing severe blisters. The Stinson Lite
- shoes solved that problem. The 1st 5 pair wore out after hiking 4,000
- miles, so bought 5 more pair. However, these shoes are beginning to
- were out. On 160423, called Hoka and talked to Debra. She said Hoka
- stopped making Hoka Stinson Lite shoes. She recommended trying 4
- different Hoka shoe models to replace the Stinson Lite shoes that have
- worked well. ref SDS 6 E56N Last week on 160527, returned all 4 pair
- of shoes, and requested exchange for Stinson 3 shoes. ref SDS 9 0001,
- ..
- Therefore, concerned that failure of Stinson 3 shoes today, per above,
- ref SDS 0 QQ5F, indicates this will not be a good solution.
- ..
- Chris said that if these new shoes develop heel tears prior to design
- life of the product, customer can return to exchange for the new
- Stinson models with improved heel design and lining material.
- ..
- As a result, did not cancel orders for 4 new pair Stinson 3 shoes
- placed on 160527 1002. ref SDS 9 0001
- ..
- Need to contact Running Warehouse to coordinate same issue on
- returning Stinson 3 shoes for new model October.
-
- [On 160602 1628 notified Niki at Running Warehouse of
- understandings with Hoka on planning to upgrade heel design
- and lining material to perform like Stinson Lite shoes that
- enable extended endurance hiking. ref SDS 10 M062
