- Summary/Objective
-
- Follow up ref SDS 1 0001.
-
- Yesterday, we went shopping and I got Millie an organizer for her
- desk at the house.
-
- We got Steve and Lilly a nice gift from Bombay that is for storing
- keys. We got Ron Jr. and Kim a figurine, and another for Pam and
- Bill. Got Ron Senior a blanket.
-
- Millie later got a nice note from Ron saying he appreciated the
- blanket, because it warms his feet, and his heart.
-
- Millie was up at 0430 this morning preparing pies and special dishes
- for Christmas eve.
- ..
- By 1000 she had everyting ready.
-
- Took Millie to Pam and Bill's at 1300.
-
- Millie had purchased everything for the dinner. We got everything
- set up, and Millie put the prime rib in the oven, so it would be
- ready about 1800 for dinner.
-
- Christmas eve was very nice with everybody visiting, except this year
- Drisc and Bob did not come because Drisc wanted to be with her brother
- who is suffering from cancer. She has not seen her brother in a long
- time. As a result, Chris and Debbie and their kids did not come, and
- neither did Keith and Antionette.
-
- So, we felt short-handed, especially because Ron Jr. and Kim did not
- get the word that the Bronis' were not coming. They had presents for
- everyone, which now have to be sent somehow by mail.
- ..
- Millie did a great job preparing a prime rib meal, with creamed
- spinich and a lot of extras. Kim, Pam and Lilly all prepared tasty
- dishes to help, but Millie did all of the work to put everything
- together.
-
- Bill and Pam were gracious hosts. Steve and Lilly were wonderful as
- always, and the kids all had a great time, especially, and of course,
- opening presents.
-
- Mathew seemed to like his gift, which Lilly had suggested based on
- doing some shopping "intelligence" work for us. Mathew and Nolan
- spent most of their time upstairs playing video games. Turns out that
- Nolan likes football after all. Millie had understood from Bill a few
- weeks ago that Nolan had not taken an interest in football, and seems
- to be entirely focused on baseball, but Nolan, like all, young people
- has a wide range of interests, based in part on interacting with
- children at school.
- ..
- This year Millie gave all of the kids $50 cash, and a present.
- We got the three older girls journals. They have sayings about
- lessons of life, which may encourage them to start keeping a journal.
- I wrote in each journal something from the Aristotle quote.
- ..
- When we returned home, after Christmas eve, Millie was upset,
- probably mostly about recognizing the passing for time. She cried for
- about an hour and encouraged me to keep in touch with my mother and to
- recognize my mother for all that she has done and tried to do for her
- children, as Millie did for her children, particularly this Christmas,
- per above.
-
- Millie remembered her mother, mourning her passing and leaving her
- life at such a young age.
-
- [On 020107 sent letter to Ron Sr., with copy to Millie and to Pam
- on this general issue. ref SDS 2 0001
-
- [On 020108 letter from Pam on this matter. ref SDS 3 0001
- ..
- We discussed a bit how adult children tend to look South
- focusing on their own children and affairs, and so tend to take mom
- and dad for granted, because mom and dad have always been there, and
- have always been helping them, and never needed help nor recognition,
- like the sun, the moon, the sky, the oceans and the mountains.
-
- Millie worried about how Ron Sr., might feel, because he has so little
- contact with the kids.
- ..
- Millie, however, has always been recognized by her family,
- friends and co-workers, like the the letter she got saying that if
- this person ever get run over by a truck, he wants the world to know
- what a wonderful person Millie is, and of course recently she was the
- only person from her office invited to join in celebrating at the
- exclusive Bohemien club, her boss' 75th birthday. So, Millie is loved
- and appreciated by all who know her, even though at times like
- Christmas her children tend to focus more attention on their own
- children, like Millie did when her children were growing up.
