040503 - We went shopping and sight seeing mostly today.

040505 - Crossing the overhead bridge walkway to New York New York, took
040506 - pictures of Millie standing in the arches of the mock up Brooklyn
040507 - Bridge, with the Eiffel Tower in the background.  Used the digital
040508 - camera, so hopefully, this will all come out.

040510 - Arrived at Carrows just beyond New York New York and split an
040511 - omelet for breakfast.

040513 - After breakfast we walked to the Monte Carlo, then took a tram to
040514 - Belagio's, which is like a giant piece of classical furniture.

040516 - Everything about Belagio's displays quality and elegance.  The
040517 - intricate designs in the terrazzo floors, which are likely layed out
040518 - on a computer and manufactured like modern fabrics, offer a very
040519 - impressive look, as do the wall finishes, the sculpted figures, even

040522 - We viewed the museum showing a small but impressive collection of
040523 - paintings, don't recall seeing any sculpture.  I was a little fidgety
040524 - and so left after about 15 minutes.  Millie listened to the recorded
040525 - explanations of each piece. My feet, ankles and knees were beginning
040526 - to feel the stress of 3 days walking, and so I waited in the spacious
040527 - hallway outside the museum in Belagio's, reading the sports page
040528 - about Agassi's victory over Pete Sampress earlier that morning.

040530 - Walking back we stopped at Caesars.  Millie left me in the race track
040531 - betting area, where there are huge television screens.  There was a
040532 - replay of the Agassi, Sampres match being shown.  We arrived in time
040533 - for the 5th set, which I saw, while Millie went shopping.  Turned out
040534 - she had my wallet, so I couldn't buy anything from the several kind
040535 - waitresses who kept stopping by to ask if I needed a drink.  I am sure
040536 - I looked like I needed something.  When she finally returned about a
040537 - half-hour after the match ended, she had seen a video of some kind on
040538 - something, which is why she took so long to get back.

040540 - We decided to get a hamburger for a late lunch on the way back to MGM.
040541 - But, we could not find anything, other than McDonald's and Denny's
040542 - that served hamburgers.  We wanted a traditional hamburger, so we
040543 - stopped at the Harley Davidson cafe, and then at the Coke a Cola cafe,
040544 - which seemed like natural places to get a "real" hamburger.  But,
040545 - neither place included this level of Americana on its menu.

040547 - At Denny's we changed our mind and got a corned beef sandwich, which
040548 - turned out to be a mistake.  It wasn't as good as it looked in the
040549 - menu picture.  The hamburger probably would not have been as good
040550 - either.

040552 - After lunch, we arrived at MGM about 1545 in time to see some of
040553 - the earlier acts of the daily show for the "Heroes of Rock and Roll"
040554 - from the 1950s era, which we saw partly yesterday. ref SDS 9 8549  The
040555 - lead member of this band was finishing his impersonation of Buddy
040556 - Holly.  It is always interesting to see how a skilled actor can change
040557 - their facial expression to take on a characteristic of another person,
040558 - and seemingly change their personality.  Today, we found seating at
040559 - the North end of the lounge, and so were able to see the acts
040560 - directly, as well as on the large overhead screen.

040562 - After the show, about 1730 or so, we went back to our rooms and rested
040563 - for a few hours until it was time leave for the presentation of
040564 - Chicago at 1930.  We walked to New York New York, and then took the
040565 - tram to Mandalay Bay hotel.  This theater is much larger than the
040566 - Broadway theater where we saw Lord of the Dance on Tuesday.  We met
040567 - some interesting people.  One elderly gentleman was a resident.  He
040568 - was a retired airline pilot from American Airlines.  His wife could
040569 - not attend, so we had an empty seat between us, but the gentleman
040570 - related how his family was spread out around the country, and this
040571 - evening he was showing his cousins and nephews around town.

040573 - We liked the production of Chicago, but not as much as anticipated
040574 - based on the explanation of the program.  The actors and actresses
040575 - were very talented, but the story was not particularly interesting, so
040576 - we left at intermission, and walked back to the Luxor, through the
040577 - Excaliber to New York New York, then back across the overhead bridge
040578 - pedestrian walkway to MGM.

040580 - At the MGM we had a wonderful dinner about 2145 at the Brown
040581 - Derby, along Studio Walk.  We split a 20 oz. prime rib steak and a
040582 - Caesar salad, topped by a tasty bread pudding desert.
