Dear Morris,
As we discussed the other night, I finally broke down and attended an event for a group called "Knowledge Management Consortium, International" (KMCI) sponsored by the Bay Area chapter. The meeting was at PeopleSoft in Pleasonton. It was about like we expected: consultants and vendors looking for a solution to a problem they have not defined. People with the title "Director of Knowledge Management" attended, and asked questions like "Is there a KM program for this stuff? I am supposed to set up KM in my company. What should I do?"
One speaker raised the specter of cognitive science, and I had a chance to sing the praises of POIMS, SDS and Com Metrics. When I was finished, the event leader asked if the group understood what was explained, and everyone raised their hand. Naturally I was pleased to have done such a good job, yet there remains a few doubts from 15 years hearing that Welch doesn't use terms like everybody else.
Sorry about calling so late on the Object Oriented Programming issue. I left this out of the record, based on your comments indicating the referent is different from first impression.
Incidentally, I was pleased that you have investigated the history of alphabet technology. Can you provide sources? My research is mostly shown in the record for 991108. Let me know what you think about analysis showing the work place suppresses literacy.
Happy Holidays
Sincerely,
THE WELCH COMPANY
