Winter '99 Event Update:

By popular demand, we will continue our tradition of facilitated breakout sessions. This will allow you to work directly with your colleagues and KM experts to help shape your KM initiatives for 2000.

The issues and opportunities we will be working on are:

- Key collaborative & knowledge management objectives for 2000. - KM issues & barriers faced by you and your enterprise. - Your needs from the Bay Area KM cluster and local community. - Your contributions to the local & global KM community in 2000.

This activity will sharpen our business KM focus. It will renew your commitment to improving competitiveness and customer satisfaction through collaboration and knowledge managment.

Also by participant demand, we are introducing a new feature of our gatherings:

"The Knowledge Management Exchange."

If you have books, periodicals, conference proceedings, professional journals, papers, CD-ROMs, or other KM material that you would like to share, please bring them to our gathering.

By clearing out your office to make room for new materials, you may find you have just the right item for one of your colleagues. Not to mention you will probably find some precious KM works you could put to use immediately.

Please bring current KM material for reciprocation, generally less than 36 months old. (If they are true classics, they are very welcome!) Topics include knowledge management, business management, strategy, technology and other related material.

Tables will be set-up for the sharing process. There will be impartial dialogue and collaboration on current readings and issues.

The KM Exchange is not for company brochures, product briefs or corporate marketing.

Be sure you are willing to part with your contribution. Exchanged materials, remaining or shared, will not be returned.

Please remember Larry Prusak's admonishment, "Manage knowledge flow, not information stock!"

We are looking forward to welcoming you to the event.

Sincerely,

SF Bay Area KMCI

 Theme

The theme of the Winter 1999 meeting is "Context, Community, Collaboration, Content and Commerce: Building the Knowledge Enterprise." The deployment of enterprise-wide planning and relationship management services has created new knowledge management opportunities. Better awareness and comprehension of the emerging eBusiness infrastructure and services enables greater business agility and responsiveness. New behaviors, particularly collaboration and community, are needed to excel. Join your colleagues, at the headquarters of a global eBusiness leader, to reform and renew your approach to enterprise-wide knowledge management.

Gatherings

The SF gatherings are unlike a KM Seminar or Conference. They are community. The primary motive of gatherings is to build-out a Bay Area KM "cluster." Another objective is  to accelerate double-loop (generative) KM learning.  Efforts to define a context for KM to thrive in business organizations will be pursued. The four-part goal of our gathering is to: advance KM comprehension, improve competitiveness, establish productive KM relationships and conduct local networking.

Agenda

Presentations, collaborations, discussions  and guided analysis with local, national and international specialists are planned.  Scenario based exercises, structured and dynamic group feedback, will be facilitated. Many opportunities will exist to broaden your network and create lasting relationships with the local community.

The density of KM expertise in the Bay Area makes our region one of the richest KM clusters in the country. This will provide a stimulating experience.
